Gurmat School
Punjabi School of Richmond (PSOR) was formed on March 2012. The main goal of the school is to teach community kids how to speak, read and write in Punjabi, our mother tongue. Classes are held at Twin Hickory Library on west end of the town on Saturdays. Each semester is 10 weeks long. There are no classes held during the holidays and summer vacations.
The minimum age preferred for admission of the child is 6 years old. Along with basic learning of the language, Sikh History is also introduced to kids. There are 10 teachers that participate voluntarily to teach kids throughout the semesters. Kids are placed into separate sections according to the material knowledge they already have.
Minimal fee is collected per semester to cover the cost of class material, including books, bags, pencils, colors, t-shirts etc.
